15. Oelßner’s Hof
Oelßners Hof is a residential and business complex around a courtyard in the centre of Leipzig. It was completely renovated in the years 2012 to 2015.
This is the building where our Trafford Sky Homes apartments with spectacular views from our roof terrace are situated – www.traford.de
Oelßner’s Court is one of the largest courts in the center of Leipzig. Until today, the neo-Baroque sandstone facades with their coats of arms and busts still bear witness to the once splendid position of the Leipzig fur
industry.
In 1896, the commercial councilor Wilhelm Oelßner bought the individual plots of land and united them into the fur trade house
Oelßner’s Court.
Since the time around 1900, the court in the inner city area of Leipzig belonged to the center of the Leipzig fur industry. During
this time, companies from Leipzig dominated the world market of fur
trade.
At the beginning of the 1930s, around a third of traders had to give up their businesses in the course of the continuing global economic crisis.
After World War II, there were only about 170 of these companies left in business. Some of them were located in Oelßner’s Court.
During the communist era, Oelßner’s Court was still used by fur industry companies. With the reunification of Germany, however, came the end for many large fur companies, only a few furriers were able to survive this period of change.
From then on, Oelßner’s Court led a sad existence. The court remained almost empty for many years and was abandoned to decay. The refurbishment began in spring 2012 and was completed in
2015.
Today, there are duplex apartments with roof terraces on the 4th and 5th floor (Trafford Sky Homes). There is also a parking garage with 200 parking spaces.
